A Quick Look at Just Some of the Ways No Child Left Behind is Helping Teachers
No Child Left Behind authorizes states to use federal funds to financially reward teachers in schools that have closed achievement gaps or exceeded academic achievement goals.
Additionally, President Bush continues to support our nation's teachers through the funding of innovative programs, loan forgiveness and tax relief. The total combined FY '04 budget request for programs dedicated to teacher quality and improvement is more than $3.2 billionwhich does not even include the additional $500 million in support from changes in loan and tax-credit policy.
Finally, teacher professional development activities are also funded by several large formula grant programs. Based on President Bush's budget request, there will be at least $827 million available for teacher professional development.
