Key Principles of Community Empowerment
Effective and sustainable community and economic development is best achieved by following the four key principles of the Community Empowerment Initiative. The following sections contain references to Federal government materials and web sites that can assist communities in accomplishing the goals concerning each of these principles.
- Economic Opportunity--Strategies for business development.
- Sustainable Community Development--Ideas for implementing comprehensive strategic plans and building community capacity.
- Community Based Partnerships--Ideas and opportunities for enhancing community partnerships.
- Strategic Vision for Change--Building and managing a community's strategic plan.
Implementing Strategic Plans - In addition to following the four key principles, communities will only succeed in attaining their goals if they carry out their plans effectively.
