45,000 Teachers Trained (And Counting)
Yesterday was the two-year anniversary of the enactment of the bipartisan No Child Left Behind law. A key component of No Child Left Behind is the Reading First program, which provides grants to help schools and districts improve children’s reading achievement through scientifically proven methods of instruction.
As a direct result of Reading First grants, more than 45,000 teachers across the country have been trained in implementing high-quality, effective reading programs consistent with scientifically based reading research.
States have already received $1.78 billion in Reading First funds and almost $200 million in funds for early childhood reading efforts through such initiatives as Early Reading First and Early Childhood Educator Professional Development program.
