The following are organizations that work with EPA to provide school-based and child care-based asthma assistance and education.

The American Lung Association (ALA)

ALA is an organization of volunteers and paid staff, utilizing the work of community activists, nurses, and physicians. ALA has run an IAQ outreach program for over 10 years. ALA's asthma activities include the development of IAQ outreach and training materials to pair with its asthma program, A is For Asthma, a two-hour training on IAQ and asthma for day care centers nationwide and the Open Airways for Schools ProgramOpen Air-ways for Schools is an interactive asthma curriculum taught to small groups of children with asthma in the third, fourth and fifth grades. It is intended to increase children's ability to take care of their asthma on a daily basis.

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA)

AAFA is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with diseases through education, advocacy and research. In partnership with EPA, AAFA offers the Asthma and Allergy Essentials for Day Care Providers program. This CEU-based course demonstrates ways to create safe and healthy environments for children with asthma and allergies in day care settings. AAFA and EPA work together to train child care providers to increase their use of appropriate allergy and asthma management strategies. In the future, they will continue to conduct courses for child care providers. If you are interested in attending a course or sponsoring a course for your child care center, contact your local AAFA chapter.

The Allergy and Asthma Network*Mothers of Asthmatics, Inc. (AAN*MA)

AAN*MA, a nonprofit patient education association, is partnering with EPA to increase patient, family and school personnel awareness of the link between indoor air quality and asthma episodes in the home and school setting. They conduct school-based outreach and education programs, including implementation of EPA's IAQ Tools for Schools Program.  Through their Home, School and Play Program AAN*MA also conducts programs in low-income communities to help families identify and remediate asthma triggers in the home, using their Indoor Air Repair Kit.

The National Association of School Nurses (NASN)

NASN provides services to school nurses to improve the health of America's school children. NASN has coupled two programs: Managing Asthma Triggers: Keeping Students Healthy and EPA's IAQ Tools for Schools Kit to holistically address asthma in schools.
