Urban Environmental Program

The Urban Environmental Program (UEP) started as a pilot program known as the Urban Environmental Initiative (UEI) in 1995 under the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in Region I, New England, to address environmental and public health problems in urban cities.

During the initiative phase, community based environmental protection was offered to the targeted cities of:

The Urban Environmental Program has been expanding into additional urban areas in Connecticut, Massachusetts, & Rhode Island. The UEP takes an active role in listening to community needs and concerns, identifying projects, and providing resources to implement projects that make measurable improvements in public health and the quality of the urban environment.

Agents of Change: Making the Vision A Reality

This is a detailed five year report on the Urban Environmental Initiative. It includes photos and narrative documenting the UEI History and Overview of Program Elements, Community Development Pyramid, Measurable Results, Case Studies, and Lessons Learned from community-based projects and efforts in Boston, Providence, and Hartford from 1995-2000.
