Most of our field research projects are conducted cooperative with scientists at the Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station (LAES) on the Louisiana State University (LSU) campus, and specific phases of sugarcane residue management projects are conducted cooperatively with scientists from the ARS Sugarcane Research Unit in Houma, LA.
We are initiating new research as the sub-watershed scale in the Cabin-Teele sub-watershed in Northern Louisiana. The recently employed ARS Research Associate (Post Doc) Agricultural Engineer, Dr. T. W. Appelboom, will be assigned full-time to this project during his 2-year tenure on our staff. His work will focus on model of the sub-watershed hydrology and agro-chemical transport (especially nitrate) in selected stream reaches in the drainage basin. This research will be conducted cooperatively with technical staff of the USDA, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), with scientists (primarily wetland experts) at the LSU Coastal Ecology Center, and with scientist at the LAES, plus officials with the LA Agr. Extension Service.
