Puu Kukui Rain Gage, Maui

Puu Kukui rain gage is at the summit of the West Maui Mountains at an altitude of 5,771 ft (gage photo). Monthly records for the rain gage, measured by Maui Land & Pineapple Company, Inc., are available since 1928. The USGS has been measuring rainfall at Puu Kukui since September 2004. The average yearly rainfall at the gage since 1928 is about 371 inches. Rainfall for July 2008 (26.7 inches) can be compared with island-wide rainfall data recorded by the National Weather Service. This station is operated by Matt Wong of the Maui field office in cooperation with the National Weather Service and is equipped with a satellite transmitter delivering rainfall updates every hour (Go to real-time website for this gage.).
