This Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) image shows a
small volcano in the Syria Planum region of Mars. Today, the lava flows
that compose this small volcano are nearly hidden by a mantle of
rough-textured, perhaps somewhat cemented, dust. The light-toned streaks
that cross the scene were formed by passing dust devils, a common
occurrence in Syria.
