Flavobacterium 2007    

Purpose The genus Flavobacterium includes over 30 species of which F. psychrophilum, F. columnare, and F. branchiophilum are important disease agents for salmonids, catfish, and other aquaculture species. This conference, Flavobacterium 2007, will bring together researchers working on diverse aspects of these microorganisms, including genomics, proteomics, pathogenesis, transmission, treatment, vaccination, novel control strategies, systematics and diagnostics.  F. psychrophilum and F. columnare are the focus of this conference, although there will be a session devoted to other Flavobacterium. I just tried to make my reservation at the NCTC and they said “they did not have it in there yet.” They told me to check back in February. If you want to stay at the NCTC, please make your room reservation between February 15th and March 30th 2007.  Let them know that you are part of the Flavobacterium 2007 Workshop and that reservations can be found under NCCCWA/ARS/USDA.  There are 65 rooms reserved at the NCTC and 40 rooms being held at the Days Inn in Shepherdstown.  Rooms cannot be guaranteed after March 30th.    2. I assume selected speakers should also submit abstracts for the conference booklet? Yes, an abstract is requested of all presenters and all abstracts will be included in a conference booklet.  In addition, we would like to make a pdf version of each talk and poster available on the conference web site, provided the presenters give their consent.  This has been a useful resource resulting from the Renibacterium Workshop (http://www.nwfsc.noaa.gov/research/divisions/reutd/fhm/bkd-conference/agenda.html).  Speakers will be given time after the meeting to revise slides (correct typos, etc) or remove slides if they don’t want them available.    3. If we rent a car will we need a parking pass at the center? What about security? When you reach the NCTC you will need to pass through a drive-through security check-point.  Please inform the security person that you are attending the Flavobacterium 2007 Workshop.  They will provide you a parking pass.  For the tour of the NCCCWA, you will need to sign-in at the front desk and non-US citizens will need to bring their passport.  There is no charge for parking at either the NCTC or the NCCCWA.    4. One other question I had was that if I fly out of Twin Falls my only easy option is to arrive at BWI. What are my options other than renting a car to get to the NCTC? Currently, there is no organized transportation from Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI).  Thus, you will need to rental a car.  Dave Hunnicutt is checking into the feasibility of providing transportation from BWI.  Please contact him directly at dwh13@psu.edu.  There is a shuttle to the NCTC if you are flying into Dulles International Airport (IAD).  Please see (http://training.fws.gov/shuttle.htm).   5. What are the average temperatures in May for the area?
