Research Project: ATLANTIC SALMON GENETICS AND BREEDING RESEARCH WITH THE MAINE AQUACULTURE ASSOCIATION (MAA)

Location: National Cold Water Marine Aquaculture Center

Project Number: 1915-31000-002-02
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Sep 17, 2007
End Date: Sep 16, 2012

Objective:
The objective of the cooperative research project is to facilitate technology transfer from the USDA, ARS National Cold Water Marine Aquaculture Center (NCWMAC) Atlantic salmon breeding program to industry stakeholders. The technology transfer will be conducted by the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) acting through the Maine Aquaculture Association (MAA), an aquaculture industry association located in Hallowell, ME.

Approach:
This Agreement will identify the general terms that will guide ARS during the technology transfer of Atlantic salmon from the NCWMAC research program located in Orono and Franklin, ME. The MAA will accept germplasm (eggs, milt, juveniles, subadult, and/or adult salmon) from the NCWMAC and assist ARS in transferring the technology to U.S. aquaculture producers and consumers.
