Dear list,
Thanks for the response. I like the idea of the visits. 

A friend of mine ( a special education teacher from Japan) suggested that
we have an orientation class (a  few days or a week in the summer) for
transitioning ABE students from the library literacy program to the ABE
program. This would allow them to become familiar with the classroom and
make some buddies which might ease their transition.  Has anyone tried
anything like this?
