Major Resources
FlyBase is a comprehensive database of the Drosophila genome. It includes genetic and genomic data from the scientific literature, sequence databases, and personal communications. Of particular interest to genomics researchers are searchable databases of sequences, ESTs, clones, transposons/vectors, transcripts/polypeptides, and BLAST searches. Genomic data is correlated with genetic data and cytological maps.
Bloomington Drosophila Stock Center at Indiana University is the centralized D. melanogaster stock center for users in the United States. Thousands of mutant stocks, including those with single P element insertions that are cytologically mapped, are available. The site has links to other stock centers world-wide, including European stock centers and the supplier of other Drosophila species, the latter of which should be of interest to genomics researchers who want to do cross-species comparisons within the Drosophila genus.
