The Woods Hole Science Center (WHSC) Core and Samples Archive Internet Map Server (IMS) provides a geographic map view of the location of collected and archived samples stored at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Coastal and Marine Geology Program (CMGP), Woods Hole Science Center. The point data layer presented here was released in 2007 as part of a larger publication entitled Archival Policies and Collections Database for the Woods Hole Science Center's Marine Sediment Samples. The cores and samples represented here by their location have been collected by USGS researchers during the past 40 years in support of numerous scientific programs to study the seabed environments and processes. Additional information contained within the data layer includes pertinent information such as year of collection, sample id, sample type, and sampling device.

Cores and samples have been symbolized within the mapviewer to indicate sample type.

The data layer listed below has associated hyperlink properties. When the data layer is selected as the active data layer, executing a hyperlink activity will result in the associated information being displayed in a new browser window.

  • sediment archive - When this layer is active, the user may utilize the hyperlink tool to display additional information regarding any core or sample. The user must first select the hyperlink tool and then use the hyperlink tool to click on the selected sample. A new browser window will be displayed containing summary information along with additional hyperlinks to the field activity information.
