Domestic Violence Centers Meet Strong Demand
Police officers reported increased public interest in informational materials on domestic violence at a recent conference in Chelyabinsk, Russia. Through an initiative of a local, USAID-supported NGO, Sodeistviye, local police stations have established domestic violence centers to connect victims with information and refer them to psychological and legal support resources offered through local NGOs and social service agencies. Officers have been surprised at the level of public demand for information and referrals. USAID implementing partner ABA/CEELI has provided technical assistance to the innovative program, which has received some funding from Russian sources.
