The Thermal and Evolved Gas Analyzer instrument has been checked out and
has been approved to accept the sample from the location informally called
"Baby Bear". Although the doors did not fully open, tests have shown that
enough sample will get in to fill the tiny oven. This image was taken on
the eighth day of the Mars mission, or Sol 8 (June 2, 2008) by the Robotic
Arm Camera aboard NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander.
The Phoenix Mission is led by the University of Arizona, Tucson, on behalf
of NASA. Project management of the mission is by NASA's Jet Propulsion
Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif. Spacecraft development is by Lockheed Martin
Space Systems, Denver.
