Witness Station

While waiting to enter the orientation theater, visitors may interact with the Witness Stations—video kiosks that allow visitors to stand face to face with people who have experienced war and been involved in peacebuilding. Each of the kiosks will feature an embedded video monitor, a brief biography of the witness written below it, and a map identifying where the conflict described in the video occurred. As the visitor approaches the kiosk, an engaging one-to-two minute program will automatically begin to play. The first-person narratives of the Witnesses will help make the consequences of violent conflict more concrete through personal stories.

As conflict touches the lives of real people all over the world and real people contribute to peacebuilding efforts, the variety of witnesses the visitor may encounter will reflect a wide spectrum of actors. A brief sampling of the witnesses that the visitor may encounter at the various stations might include:

  • A diplomat
  • A member of the armed forces
  • A peace agreement mediator
  • A former child soldier
  • A survivor of war
  • A Nobel Peace Prize laureate
  • A political leader from a fragile state
  • A peacebuilder from a non-governmental or international organization
