This image, taken by NASA's Phoenix Mars Lander's Robotic Arm Camera on
Sol 50, the 50th day of the mission, July 15, 2008, shows material
collected in the lander's scoop from the rasping activity on the Martian
surface.
The collected material, believed to be icy soil, is near the bottom of the
image. The width of the scoop is 8.5 centimeters (3.3 inches).
The Phoenix Mission is led by the University of Arizona, Tucson, on behalf
of NASA. Project management of the mission is led by NASA's Jet Propulsion
Laboratory, Pasadena, Calif. Spacecraft development is by Lockheed Martin
Space Systems, Denver.
