Who is sponsoring this chat?

This chat is being sponsored by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), which is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), a component of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. NIDA's mission is to lead the Nation in bringing the power of science to bear on drug abuse and addiction.

What is the purpose of this chat?

The purpose of this chat is to provide the opportunity for students and teachers in classrooms across the United States to ask questions of the Nation's top experts in the field of drug abuse and addiction. This is your opportunity to have all of your questions answered about addiction, drugs, and their effects. All questions on these topics are welcomed!

What software is required for me to participate in the chat?

You don't need special software to access the chat. The chat is Web-based so all you need is a computer and an Internet connection. This Web chat is best viewed in Internet Explorer version 7.0, Firefox version 2.0, and Safari version 2.

What do I do if I get disconnected?

If you get disconnected, just log back in at http://www.drugabuse.gov/chat/, click to enter the chat and resubmit your user name, school, and State information.

When will my question get answered?

We will make every effort to answer your question in a timely fashion. However, we are expecting a very high volume of questions throughout the day. Please be patient, and remember that you can always check the transcript if you do not see your response posted during your class period.

Will a transcript be available after the chat is over?

Yes. We will post a full transcript shortly after the chat.
