Drug Abuse Chat Day

CHAT DAY 2008 IS COMING!

NIDA's second annual DRUG FACTS CHAT DAY is coming on October 7th! Due to last year's overwhelming response, NIDA is now offering two ways to participate in DRUG FACTS CHAT DAY.

  • One - Full Participation - Registration Required
  • Two - View Only- No registration needed. This year's "View Only" option will be filled with quizzes and factoids about teens.

WHO CAN REGISTER?  NIDA scientists were overwhelmed with an unexpected amount of questions on CHAT DAY 2007, and could not answer many of them.

In 2008, we are giving registration priority to schools that participated last year but were unable to get questions answered. For more registration information, contact Brian Marquis at Bmarquis@nida.nih.gov

If you or a friend needs help with a drug problem...

The best way for someone to stop using drugs is to get treatment from a doctor or other health professional. The sooner they get treatment the better are their hopes for recovery.

If you are in crisis and need to speak with someone immediately, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (they don't just talk about suicide, they cover a lot of issues and will help put you in touch with someone close by).

For more on treatment and where you can find it, you can call the Substance Abuse Treatment Facility Locator at 1-800-662-HELP or go to their website at www.findtreatment.samhsa.gov. Talking about your drug use can be uncomfortable, but it can help to reach out to a trusted family member, teacher or coach.

NIDA Director, Nora Volkow meets with 100 students
in Harlem, at the High School for Math Science and Engineering at City College in New York City for an open discussion.

The creative students at Rockville High School (RHS) in Rockville, Maryland created this Drug Facts Chat Day promotion for their morning announcements. RHS opened its media center so kids could go in throughout the day and post questions. Now the student leaders offer some of our scientists’ answers once a week during morning announcement. Go Rams!
