Rehabilitation of Economic Facilities and Service (REFS) Program
Louis Berger
The Louis Berger Group is providing engineering, design, construction management and other services to implement USAID's Rehabilitation of Economic Facilities and Service (REFS) Program. Under this contract, Afghanistan's major and rural roads are being reconstructed to improve economic growth, security, and political integration along the corridor linking Afghanistan's three largest cities: Kabul, Kandahar and Herat. The REFS program is also rehabilitating irrigation systems, dams, power generation and schools and clinics.

Rebuilding Agricultural Markets Program (RAMP)
Chemonics
USAID contracted with Chemonics to implement the Rebuilding Agricultural Markets Program (RAMP), a three-year program aimed at enhancing the good security and incomes of Afghanistan's rural population. It has two principal objectives: to increase agricultural productivity and output, and to facilitate effective linkages between producers, processors and markets. This includes improving irrigation for 310,000 hectares of farmland and repairing 233 irrigation structures.
