| In February 2003, USAID announced $60 million initiative to rebuild the educational infrastructure of Afghanistan. The main aspect will be the rehabilitation and construction of 1,000 schools across the country over the next three years. |
| USAID supported over 225 spot reconstruction projects such as government buildings, schools, roads, bridges, irrigation systems and other community projects. |
Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC)
| In February 2003, OPIC pledged support for construction of a five-star hotel in Kabul, managed by Hyatt International. Anticipates using $35 million for financing and political risk insurance toward the project. |
| In February 2003, OPIC pledged to provide $35,000 in insurance to enable Vermeer Manufacturing Company to donate a compressed earth block machine for the construction of 3 schools, at least one of which is an all girl's school. |
