The Administration developed these reauthorization principles as a tool to inform our deliberations and discussions with Members of Congress and our authorizing committees regarding reauthorizing the Corporation and its programs.  These principles are not intended to be a comprehensive list of particular items that we might support or oppose, but rather are intended as a general framework for engaging about national service reauthorization.  The high level of interest in strengthening national service programs and the positive spirit expressed by those participating in discussions gives us confidence that we can achieve passage of a bi-partisan reauthorization bill during this session of Congress.  Such an outcome will carry forward the momentum achieved in AmeriCorps rulemaking in 2005 and approval of the Corporation’s five-year strategic plan in 2006.
