HIV/AIDS
Since the first cases of AIDS were identified more than 25 years ago, millions of people around the world have become infected with HIV, and the epidemic has claimed millions of lives. Globally, there are an estimated 33 million people living with HIV/AIDS, including more than one million in the United States. While there have been successes in addressing the epidemic on many fronts, multiple challenges remain in the areas of prevention, care and treatment, research, infrastructure and capacity development, and funding.

This section provides data and information on the HIV/AIDS epidemic, including policy reports, fact sheets, and survey data, and information on our media partnerships, journalist training programs, and HIV/AIDS initiatives in South Africa. In addition, it includes online news summaries and information resources provided through our free online resource, kaisernetwork, particularly the Daily HIV/AIDS Report and HIV-related webcasts, and our State Health Facts Online and Global Health Facts information services.

The Kaiser Family Foundation is a source of independent and current information on the epidemic for policymakers, the media, advocates and community members, and individuals and families affected by HIV. Our HIV/AIDS-related work spans all areas of the Foundation, including policy research and analysis, media and public health partnerships, journalist training and education, health and development in South Africa, primarily through loveLife, and online news and information resources through kaisernetwork, including the Daily HIV/AIDS Report, webcasts, and the HIV/AIDS Issue Spotlight. The Foundation’s HIV/AIDS related activities focus both on the epidemic in the U.S. and globally.
