Sandra Stone joined AmeriCorps*VISTA in June 2004 to help prepare Georgia citizens for manmade disasters. Immediately, she established relationships with emergency management and began assessing the information needs of our community.
Sandra has organized workshops with hospitals, fire departments, the emergency management association, and the National Weather Service. She has provided workshops throughout the community to ensure people have the necessary tools and information to prepare for disasters.
Recently, Sandra worked with a local insurance company to distribute Emergency Supply Kits to homebound seniors. After Hurricane Katrina and Rita, Sandra worked tirelessly as a family services caseworker for the local Red Cross and taught classes to 165 new volunteers.
“This is my community and anything I can do to help prepare the citizens for a disaster, I will do it. Knowing what to do in times of an emergency can save a life.” |
