Other info. - This species is very common in Missouri and can be found throughout the state. The flowers open at dusk and close when hit by strong sunlight. They are mostly pollinated by moths. O. biennis is a very variable plant with respect to pubescence on the stem and flower parts. Steyermark breaks the Missouri material into 4 varieties based on pubescence. I wont go into those here as they are no longer valid.
