Research Project:
DEVELOPMENT OF PROTEINS FOR CONTROL OF PIERCE'S DISEASE AND OTHER XYLELLA FASTIDIOSA-CAUSED PLANT DISEASES
Location: Crop Diseases, Pests and Genetics
Project Number: 5302-22000-008-18
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 29, 2004
End Date: Dec 31, 2007
Objective:
Identify and develop low-medium molecular weight proteins with high affinity binding affinity for mopB to interfere with establishment of Xylella fastidiosa infection and/or disease development.
Approach:
Obtain a protein(s) with high affinity for exterior portions of Xf mopB protein. Evaluate selected mopB-binding proteins for ability to interact with and interfere with Xf infectivity. Design and construct genes for chimeric proteins incorporating mopB-binding and Xf-inactivating domains. Develop transgenic grape, almond and/or citrus that express candidate anti-Xf protein(s). Documents SCA with UC Davis. Formerly 5302-22000-005-19S (10/05) & 5302-22000-007-09S (5/07).
