Research Project:
CHARACTERIZATION AND CHEMISTRY OF SEXUAL COMMUNICATION IN TWO PSYLLID PESTS OF PEARS
Location: Wapato, Washington
Project Number: 5352-22000-017-13
Project Type:
Reimbursable
Start Date: Oct 01, 2007
End Date: Sep 30, 2010
Objective:
Determine physiological conditions in pear psylla which lead to optimal production of volatile sex attractants by females, and isolate and identify the volatile attractant.
Approach:
Behavioral assays using a Y-tuber olfactometer will be used to show that males are attracted to females and to test what physiological conditions in females prompt optimal male response. Standard pheromone chemistry methods will then be used to isolate and identify the attractant. Documents BARD Agreement. Log 32221.
