 Principles of Addiction Medicine

ASAM is pleased to announce publication of the Third Edition of its landmark textbook, Principles of Addiction Medicine.  Like the widely praised Second Edition, the 2003 edition of Principles provides a comprehensive overview of the diagnosis and treatment of addictive disorders, as well as the management of co-occurring medical and psychiatric conditions.

Editors Allan W. Graham, M.D., FACP, Terry K. Schultz, M.D., FASAM, Michael F. Mayo-Smith, M.D., M.P.H., Richard K. Ries, M.D., and Bonnie B. Wilford recruited more than 200 experts to write chapters on virtually every aspect of addiction, ranging from basic science, pharmacology and epidemiology; to diagnostic tests, behavioral and pharmacologic therapies; to special treatment considerations in populations such as pregnant women, adolescents, older adults, and patients in criminal justice settings.

At 1,664 pages, the Third Edition of Principles is almost 300 pages longer than the Second Edition, and the most comprehensive text available on the subject.  Every chapter has been completely revised and updated to reflect new research and evidence-based practices—including developments as recent as FDA's October 2002 approval of buprenorphine.

Principles of Addiction Medicine, Third Edition, can be ordered by phoning 1-800/844-8948 Monday through Friday between 8:30 am and 5:00 pm EST.  Prices are $175 for ASAM members and $199 for non-members.
