Flooding Across Central Wisconsin - June 21-22, 2002
Thunderstorms with heavy rain developed across central Wisconsin during the late evening on June 21. Additional storms developed and moved across the same area ("training"), which produced very heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding that lasted into the morning of June 22. An unofficial gage near Biron (Wood county) recorded 10.30 inches of rain during the event. In Wautoma (Waushara county), 5.56 inches fell in a three-hour period.
Damage to roads, basements and crops across Marathon, Wood, Portage and Waushara counties will reach well into the many millions of dollars. In Waushara county alone, crop damage is expected to exceed $35 million.
