Severe Thunderstorms Blast Through Area on July 30, 2006
A line of thunderstorms with winds over 50 mph and hail moved across east-central Wisconsin during the morning of July 30, 2006. Winds were measured as high as 62 mph at the NWS Green Bay office and 66 mph in Appleton. Numerous trees and power lines were knocked down. A map with preliminary storm reports is below.
NWS Green Bay Doppler radar tracked the storms as they moved out of northern Wisconsin earlier in the morning. Below is a Doppler velocity image as the storms were hitting the west side of Green Bay and the surrounding area. The circled area is winds greater than 60 mph, measured by the radar.
Winds over 60 mph caused this service station canopy (below) to fall over just south of downtown Green Bay.
