August 2008 - DRAFT Phosphorus-based
TMDL for Lake Carmi issued for public comment. DEC has issued
the DRAFT Total Maximum Daily Load for Lake Carmi, a phosphorus
impaired 1,375 acre waterbody located in Franklin, Vermont. A public
meeting on the DRAFT TMDL will be held on September 11, 2008. To

July 2008 - Draft TMDLs for Moon Brook (Rutland) and
Stevens and Rugg Brooks (St. Albans) prepared and out for comment.
The Department of Environmental Conservation has released for
public comment draft Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) for the 3
stormwater impaired waters.
DEC will be conducting two public meetings and written comments
on the draft TMDLs will be accepted until early September. To inspect

June 2008 - Water Quality Management Plans for waters
in Basin 11 (West, Williams, Saxtons) and Basin 14 (Waits, Wells,
Ompompanoosuc, Stevens) adopted by the Agency of Natural Resources.
The Department of Environmental Conservation and the Agency of
Natural Resources have adopted the water quality management plans
for waters in these two river basin areas.
The two management plans, developed over several years with input
and assistance from many persons and organizations local to these
basin areas, contain priority strategies and actions for efforts
to protect and improve water quality and aquatic habitat. To learn

June 2008 - Last summer, the invasive alga "Didymo"
(also known as "rock snot") was found in several streams
in the Northeast.

The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources and its regional partners
are taking steps to inform the public how they can help minimize the
spread of this invasive alga. Didymosphenia geminata, as the alga
is known scientifically, moves from river to river on the clothing
and equipment of people who come in contact with even microscopic
quantities. Please visit the ANR’s informational website which
provides additional background information and specific information
on how you, as a river user, can reduce the spread of Didymo and other
aquatic nuisance species.
