The Office on Women's Health located in Region III has identified a number of priorities that address women's health for the coming year. These were identified based on three major factors. One of these is the national priorities established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Public Health and Science, Office on Women's Health. A second factor is the utilization of existing data sets that identify major health issues and trends. The two most prominent data sets used were the Women's Health and Mortality Chartbook, a 2004 CDC publication, and the National Women's Health Indicators Data Base, a web based data set sponsored by the Office on Women's Health. The third factor is information gathered through collaborations and partnerships with organizations at the state and local levels.
The priority areas are prevention and health promotion activities that address:
- Cardiovascular Disease – specifically heart and stroke
- Diabetes
- Cancer – specifically prevention of lung cancer
- HIV/AIDS
- Overweight and Obesity
- Physical Inactivity
