Volunteering

There are many opportunities for volunteering on Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. We try to shape the program to meet the needs of the refuge and the volunteer. A variety of duties, schedules, and projects may be available, depending on the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the volunteer.

Walter B Jones, Sr. Center for the Sounds, Columbia, NC

The volunteer program within the FWS was formally initiated in 1982, and began receiving congressionally appropriated funding in 1991. The volunteer program provides people with hands-on opportunities to engage in wildlife conservation and be involved on lands that belong to them. Our volunteers are individuals who want to give back to their communities, parents who want to be good stewards of the land and set examples for their children, retired people willing to share their wealth of knowledge, concerned citizens of all ages who want to learn more about conservation, and passionate people who enjoy the outdoors and want to spread the word about America's greatest natural treasures. Please contact the refuge office for specific information and to sign up today!

If you are interested in volunteering your services, please contact Volunteer Coordinator or call 252-796-3004 ext. 223.

If you are interested in a volunteer internship, we may have just the program for you!
