Research Project: EVALUATION OF QUALITY AND INSECT DAMAGE OF ALMOND HARVEST SAMPLES

Location: Commodity Protection and Quality

Project Number: 0500-00044-023-05
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: Aug 29, 2008
End Date: Dec 15, 2008

Objective:
In-hull inspection testing of 100,000 almonds.

Approach:
ACFSQ will detect insect infestation and damage and perform quality inspection. As outlined on the attached letter of agreement: USDA-ARS will, as part of ARS demonstration research, deliver 100,000 in-hull almonds to the address above, and pick up this material after evaluation. AFSQ will separate these almonds from their hulls and shells, detect those that are insect damaged, perform a quality inspection on each lot, and place insect-infested and non-infested almonds in separate storage bags, identified by lot, for retrieval by ARS. The project will begin on or before September 15, 2008, and will be completed by December 15, 2008. All results and completed samples will be retrieved by ARS from the ACFSQ location on or before December 15. Documents Grant with American Council for Food Safety & Quality (ACFSQ).
