Bike Butler 17 years ago a mountain bike race was held in the old hardwood forests that surround the ski lodge at General Butler State Resort Park in Carrollton, Kentucky. Since 1989 there have been a variety of off-road cycling competitions at this venue, including the first National Collegiate Mountain Bike Championship east of the Rocky Mountains. Other off-road "firsts" include the region's first kayak triathlon, the Midwest's first Police-In-Uniform relay, and the first National Off-Road Wheelchair Championship.

National Recreation Trails Program A national trail system comprised of National Recreation Trails, National Scenic Trails and National Historic Trails. National Recreation Trails provide for numerous outdoor recreation activities in a variety of urban, rural and remote areas. By the year 2000, over 800 trails, available for public use and ranging from less than a mile to 485 miles in length, have been designated as NRT's on federal, state, municipal and privately owned lands.

Pennsylvania Twisted Spokes Located in the Appalachian mountains of North Central Pennsylvania, Tioga County offers two car-free bike paths, hundreds of miles of quiet, scenic dirt and paved roads, over 170,000 acres of public lands, including state parks, state forest, and state game lands. The Laurel Classic Mountain Bike Challenge, a race on the trails of the Tioga State Forest every September, and in June, host the Laurel Flyer Road Race - through the backroads of Pennsylvania's Grand Canyon country. During spring, summer and fall they organize regular weekly group rides.
Pennsylvania Western Wheelmen The Western Pennsylvania Wheelmen (WPW), founded in 1969, is one of the largest bicycle clubs in Pennsylvania.
