Q: Is this a state or federal agency?
A: The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) is a federal agency under the direction of the United States Department of the Interior. The USFWS has four programs: Refuges, Ecological Services, Fisheries and Habitat Conservation, and Law Enforcement. We are a fisheries office. Our office also oversees the Allegheny National Fish Hatchery located in Warren, PA.

Q:Where are you located?
A: Our office is located in the University Center on North French Road, approximately 0.5 miles west of the Sweet Home Road and North French Road intersection, in Amherst, New York.

Q: What does your office do?
A: The mission of the USFWS is “working with others to conserve, protect, and enhance fish, wildlife, and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people.” Our main focus is restoration, enhancement, and conservation of native fish species and their habitats for the Lower Great Lakes. Our programs include: Lake Trout and Lake Sturgeon restoration, monitoring and control of invasive species, and community outreach and education. We also assist states, tribes, and non-governmental organizations with fisheries management decisions focusing on native, inter-jurisdictional fishes, and threatened and endangered species.
