USAID provides relief to earthquake survivors

These images capture people and places affected by the earthquake, and first relief to survivors. Two USAID disaster specialists were deployed to Jammu and Kashmir on October 12 to distribute aid and rapidly assess needs. The specialists were the first “on the ground” among bilateral donors. Humanitarian assistance from the American people is now valued at $100,000, and is expected to reach $600,000. Additional response will likely focus on shelter, warm clothing and blankets, easing psychological trauma, and modest cash-for-work to clear debris, construct interim shelter and restart livelihoods. On November 29, 2005 U.S. Congressional Representatives Sheila Jackson Lee and Al Green (visiting India with a Congressional delegation lead by Dan Burton) visited Salaam Balaack Trust, an NGO in Delhi that works with vulnerable street children. Salaam Balaack Trust receives support from USAID through Family Health International for its HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention activities with street children. More...

Guitarist Earl Klugh visits Salaam Balaack Trust

 

Guitarist Earl Klugh visits Salaam Balaack Trust, a place where USAID helps vulnerable children affected by or at risk for HIV/AIDS. Klugh showered youngsters with 100 teddy bears to thank them for sharing how they live and learn to stop the spread of HIV. Klugh was in India on a “jazz diplomacy” tour to raise awareness of the growing epidemic.
