Disaster Declared: Multiple
Brief Description: OFDA provided more than $9.2 million in response to the devastating effects of Hurricanes Frances, Ivan, and Jeanne in the Bahamas, Grenada, Jamaica, and Haiti in 2004, which affected hundreds of thousands of people across the Caribbean. In advance of and immediately after the storms' passage, OFDA deployed Disaster Assistance Response Teams (DARTs) to conduct damage assessments and coordinate the U.S. Government's humanitarian relief efforts in cooperation with U.S. embassies and USAID Mission Pages.
OFDA also dispatched multiple flights carrying relief commodities from the warehouse in Miami, Florida-including medical supplies, hygiene kits, plastic sheeting, generators, water containers, and blankets-to each of the affected countries, as well as provided air support to relief workers.
