WASHINGTON, DC - More than 100 countries, international institutions, and other supporters will gather for the International Reconstruction Conference on Liberia on February 5 and 6 in New York City. The two-day conference, hosted by the United Nations, the World Bank, and the United States, in collaboration with the National Transitional Government of Liberia (NTGL), will provide a forum for international donors and supporters to understand the current and future humanitarian, security and reconstruction needs of Liberia and pledge financial support to help Liberia recovery from decades of conflict.
The signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in Accra, Ghana helped to bring an end to civil strife in Liberia in August 2003. This conference follows on the foundations set by this agreement to mobilize and provide the country with the proper tools and funding to achieve a more stable peace and long-term recovery.
