USAID:
HIV/AIDS, Latin America and the
Caribbean
More than 2.1 million people in Latin
America and the Caribbean (LAC) were living with HIV/AIDS
at the end of 2004. The Caribbean region has the highest
HIV/AIDS adult prevalence outside of Sub-Saharan Africa (2.3%).
Transmission patterns vary widely throughout the region,
which has both localized and generalized epidemics. USAID
is responding to HIV/AIDS with programs in 12 countries in
Latin America and the Caribbean and throughout the two
regions.
