WASHINGTON, DC - The Administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Andrew S. Natsios swore in Denny Robertson today as the Agency's new Mission Director for the Caucasus Region in a ceremony at USAID headquarters in Washington, D.C.

For the past four years Robertson has served as USAID Mission Director in Romania. During his tenure Robertson managed a multi-faceted assistance program which focused on creating a market-based economy, improving child welfare and healthcare, and stimulating greater participation in the political process through a local-government based approach to democratic change.

A former Peace Corps volunteer in the Philippines prior to joining USAID in 1983, Robertson served in Thailand, South Africa and Cote d'Ivoire as well as Washington, D.C. A native of the Detroit area, he holds a Masters of Science degree in Community and Regional Resource Development from Michigan State University and a Bachelors of Science degree in Environment and Natural Resources from the University of Michigan.

As USAID Director for the Caucasus Mission, Robertson will oversee a combined $78 million program to the Republic of Georgia and Azerbaijan. USAID has been actively engaged in the Caucasus since the early 1990s with assistance to promote economic growth, strengthen democracy, and regional stability.

The U.S. Agency for International Development has provided economic and humanitarian assistance worldwide for more than 40 years.
