Nutrition

HIV/AIDS leads to reduced household income, reduced agricultural production, and increased expenses, which exacerbate malnutrition. Poor nutrition increases the risk and progression of disease. Therefore, food and nutrition play an important role in prevention, care, and mitigation activities in HIV/AIDS-affected communities. Using lessons learned from USAID-funded research into the best uses of food aid programs to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS, USAID is responding to the nutritional needs of affected households and communities.
