Anticipating Peace

On July 20, 2002, the Government of Sudan and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement signed the Machakos Protocol, signaling that peace could be very near. Southern Sudanese are eager for education and economic development activities that will allow them to move beyond relief to self-reliance. The two new USAID initiatives respond to these needs through education and agriculture projects.
