Funding

USAID supports family planning activities through a variety of programs in more than 65 countries. In fiscal year 2005, Agency-wide funding for family planning and reproductive health totaled $437 million.

USAID supports a comprehensive program of assistance aimed at improving access to family planning services, especially for the poorest segments of the population. The comprehensive program includes developing new and improved methods of contraception, training of health providers, and communications that promote healthy behavior.

Expenditures are Contraceptives and Condoms at 11%, Training at 9%, Social Marketing and Partnering with the Commercial Sector at 5%, Service Delivery at 14%, Research at 10%, Policy Development at 7%, Behavior Changes Communications at 11%, Data Collection Monitoring and Evaluation and Health Information Systems at 13%, Health Commodities at 3%, Institutional Capacity Building and Management at 13%, Pharmaceutical Management and Logistics at 4%.
