Coordination with Multilateral Development Banks to Promote Biodiversity Conservation

USAID works with other donors to support the
conservation of global resources.
USAID works to ensure that multilateral development bank projects observe international treaties and conventions on biodiversity. Multilateral development bank project loans and policy prescriptions in developing countries are intended to reduce poverty and encourage economic development; however, large–scale projects such as the development of roads, irrigation facilities, hydroelectric dams, and oil and gas projects often have major negative environmental and social consequences.

USAID supported reviews address the adverse impacts on the environment, natural resources, public health and indigenous peoples, and provide recommendations to eliminate or mitigate adverse impacts.
