Biography of Garrett Grigsby

Director
Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives

Image of Garrett GrigsbyGarrett Grigsby is the Director for the Center of Faith-Based and Com-munity Initiatives, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

He was appointed to this position in April of 2005. Grigsby works to carry out the December 12, 2002, Executive Order to level the playing field so that faith-based and community-based groups can compete fairly with other organizations for USAID funding.

From January 2002 to April 2005, Grigsby served as Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistances. Among his areas of responsibility were food aid programs, American Schools and Hospitals Abroad, Volunteers for Prosperity and the Humanitarian Information Unit.

He served as the Republican Deputy Staff Director on the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations from May 1999 until his appointment to USAID and he had served on Committee as a professional staff member from 1991. Grigsby's responsibilities included oversight of U.S. foreign assistance programs, including U.S. participation in the multilateral de-velopment banks and international trade promotion programs.

Grigsby was born in Nashville, Tennessee. He is a graduate of Hanover College in Indiana and attended American University's School of International Service in Washington, D.C. He is married to Anne Ross Grigsby; they have five children and live in Vienna, Virginia.
