Bridge Media Connects Divided Societies

Everyone uses stories to define themselves and determine how they see others.  Media – television, film, radio, and print – provide powerful tools for making and remaking those stories.

That is the underlying premise of Bridge Media, AED’s signature approach to peace-building. Bridge Media is both a process and a product. The products are popular media programs that build inter-ethnic understanding. The Bridge Media production process engages multicultural teams who come from divided, war-scarred communities. Together,  these teams create fast-paced programs with mass-audience appeal.

AED’s Bridge Media programs—which use a variety of formats including reality TV, soap operas, news magazines and documentaries—promote tolerance, reconciliation, and collaboration to reduce mistrust, violence, and stereotypes.

AED’s Bridge Media staff, who are media professionals with conflict mediation expertise, work with local producers to sharpen their production skills. The impact of resulting broadcasts is then enhanced by discussion groups and listening circles designed to foster dialogue at the community and national level.
