The duration of forecast precipitation used by the MBRFC in river forecasts and outlooks varies with the time of year because of the reduced confidence level in the precipitation forecast during the convective season. River forecasts issued for the Missouri River Basin routinely include 12 hours of forecast precipitation from April through October, and 24 hours of forecast precipitation from November through March. The 5 day Significant River Flood Outlook product issued for the Missouri River Basin routinely includes 24 hours of forecast precipitation from April through October, and 48 hours of forecast precipitation from November through March. |
