Description:
The National Center for Environmental Statistics is a research organization, dealing with problems of statistical methodology for environmental applications. The Center has a core group of faculty at the University of Washington, and anticipates a large number of visitors from other institutions. In addition, collaborative research technologies will be employed to enable long distance collaborative work. While many projects will originate in particular EPA problems, the Center work will focus in five areas: environmental sampling, space-time modeling, model assessment, ecological assessment, and risk assessment. The work at the Center will enable environmental scientists and EPA personnel to use the most modern statistical methodology in complex situations. It will also spearhead the development of environmental statistics as a mature subarea of statistics.
