EPA recognizes the need to assist the regulated community. Compliance assistance helps those in business, industry, institutions, and government understand and meet their legal obligations. Assistance can also help the regulated community find cost-effective ways to go "beyond compliance" or reduce its regulatory burden through the use of Pollution Prevention, Environmental Management Systems, or Environmental Technologies.
-
Assistance may be specific to a certain law (e.g., storm water management), or it may be sector-oriented, addressing the issues or needs of a particular audience (e.g., metal finishers or municipalities).
-
Assistance may be provided in a variety of ways such as workshops, on-site visits, and training manuals.
-
EPA works with state and local governments, trade associations, non-profit organizations, and others in developing and providing assistance activities and tools.
